Employment Opportunities

The Field School begins accepting resumes for teaching positions for the next school year in December and continues to accept resumes throughout the year. However, faculty recruitment begins in earnest January 1st and aims to wrap-up June 15. Most interviews are conducted on campus and require a day's visit.

Please e-mail resumes and cover letters for faculty positions to shellyg@fieldschool.org, or send them to Mr. Shelly Greenberger, The Field School, 2301 Foxhall Rd. N.W., Washington, D.C. 20007. E-mail is preferred. It is not possible to respond to individual phone inquiries.

Field typically has a number of entry-level teaching positions available each year, in addition to positions requiring more experience. A full-time faculty position usually includes teaching four periods a day, coaching two seasons of athletics and sponsoring other activities.  A Bachelor's Degree is required for all faculty openings, and many first-year hires have only this credential, but teaching certification, an advanced degree and prior teaching experience are welcome. Typically, Field hires teachers who have varied interests, are entrepreneurial in outlook and are flexible in approach. But above all, Field is looking for outgoing, knowledgeable teachers who care deeply about kids.  We seek teachers committed to the challenges and rewards of working in an environment where students are not tracked by ability and bring to class a varied approach to learning, understanding, and thinking imaginatively.

Field also has a number of staff positions in support of our educational programs. Periodically, the school has openings in the Main Office, the Admissions Office and the Development Office, as well as in the Maintenance Department.

The Field School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, age, religion, gender, sexual orientation or national origin.
Teaching at Field
YOUNG TEACHERS — Field has been a great place for recent college graduates to launch their careers.  Some make teaching a life-long vocation, and others see it as a meaningful time in their life before pursuing graduate education; all make vital contributions to our community as teachers, coaches, mentors, and role models.

EXPERIENCED TEACHERS — Field also hires experienced teachers looking for a distinct environment and place to fall in love with teaching all over again.  Recently, we have also hired several people beginning teaching as a second career.

SUPPORT & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT — Field offers teachers rich and varied professional support and opportunities for professional development.

GREAT LIVING IN WASHINGTON, DC — The DC metro area is one of the finest in the country: culturally rich, politically engaged, close to nature and cosmopolitan at the same time.

WE VALUE INTELLIGENCE, MOTIVATION & CHARACTER — The Field School boasts a faculty of exceptional moral and intellectual leadership.  If you want to approach your classes with energy, focus, and imagination, then Field may be a great home for you.  Our collegiality and encouragement of curricular initiative are exceptional.  We seek teachers who are eager to know the students and engage them as thinkers and people.
