Whether or not you celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, it's always a good time to think about giving back to the community—so we checked in with Field's Community Service Club to see how their year is going so far and what upcoming opportunities for service they have!

"We've done so much more than we did last year,” says senior Aliza, who runs the group with fellow seniors Madden, Caroline, and Mia, as well as junior Mara. (“We like to have a leader from a younger grade so Community Service Club can continue year after year,” the leaders explained.) One of the club’s biggest successes thus far was selling coffee, bagels, and other breakfast treats at Homecoming this year to raise money for the Red Cross’ Hurricane Michael relief efforts.

The group is currently on the last day of a pie-selling initiative through local organization Food and Friends. “You can buy a pie,” Aliza explains, “and it allows pumpkin and apple pies to be donated. If you order, make sure to choose The Field School team so we can keep track of how much we’ve raised.”

Looking ahead, the Community Service Club is looking forward to a canned food drive and, later in the spring, a book, backpack, and school supplies drive. “We’re also going to create a good amount of opportunities for service hours,” Aliza says—community service events that anyone in the Field community can join. Stay tuned for more on these opportunities!

Looking for ways you can get involved now? Reach out to any of the club’s leaders—they have extensive research on organizations where students (and adults!) can volunteer. It’s always the season to give back!
