Community Health Update | July 29, 2021

Lori Strauss, Head of School
All staff and students 12 and older must be fully vaccinated before returning to campus.
July 7, 2021

Dear Field Families,

It is with excitement that I look forward to welcoming our students back for the 2021-2022 school year. We have instituted policies and protocols necessary to mitigate the risks associated with the continuing COVID pandemic. First, all staff and students 12 and older must be fully vaccinated before returning to campus. The school may, in its discretion, grant an exemption to the mandatory vaccination policy for medical reasons submitted by a physician. Families should upload a copy of their child’s vaccination card to their Magnus portal by August 15.

Our goal is to open with 100% of the student, faculty and staff populations returning to in-person teaching and learning five days a week, beginning on opening day, September 8, 2021. Please know that with the best of intentions, we also must be nimble and flexible in response to a changing reality. All decisions are made based on the latest health recommendations from the District. We continue to rely on our medical advisory team members who have encouraged us to follow the science and not the politics of decision-making as it relates to school policies. If anything changes between now and opening day, we will let you know. In order to maintain a healthy community and remain open for instruction, we will adhere to the following protocols:

  • All eligible students (ages 12+) and staff are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID and must upload their COVID vaccination record to the Magnus portal by August 15, when all other schools and health forms are due.
    • Note: If you already submitted vaccination status to Magnus when it was optional, please take a moment to ensure you uploaded a copy of the completed vaccination card. Manually entered information does not meet the requirement for proof of vaccination.
  • 6th grade families will receive a separate communication in the coming weeks regarding additional protocols for our students not yet eligible for vaccination.
  • All students and staff, whether vaccinated or not, will be required to wear a mask while on campus pursuant to the District orders.
  • Students and staff should maintain healthy habits including frequent and thorough hand washing and sanitizing.
  • Students and staff should stay home if they are not feeling well or have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID. Upon return to school, each person must present a negative COVID test for reentry. This means that any student who has a scratchy throat, fever, runny nose or cough must stay home from school until they are able to go to their pediatrician or pharmacy and be tested. Rapid tests are a reliable means of testing in symptomatic people. We will therefore accept rapid tests in these situations. Once a student has tested negative, they may return to school.
  • In the case of a positive COVID test, that individual must quarantine for 10 days and present a negative COVID test upon return.
  • There will no longer be virtual learning options when students have to miss school due to illness. Class assignments can be made up by contacting individual teachers.
  • Classroom setups will return to pre-pandemic configurations. We will not be enforcing physical distancing on campus.
  • Our housekeeping staff will continue to clean all areas of campus throughout the day with a special emphasis on bathrooms.
  • Students can choose to eat lunch indoors or outdoors.
  • At this time, all fall athletics are planned to begin on the traditional pre-season training dates. Students should continue COVID precautions while engaging in any school activities. Students must have their health forms and proof of COVID vaccination (ages 12+) submitted by August 15 in order to practice preseason sports.

Updates to these guidelines will be provided, as needed, in the weeks leading up to the first day of school. We hope you and your family have had a restful and restorative summer. Please enjoy these last few weeks of summer and we look forward to greeting all of our students as they return in September.

Warm Regards,

Lori Strauss
