About Field

A Letter from Anne, Interim Head of School

Welcome to The Field School!

Whether you are a prospective applicant visiting our website for the first time, an alumnus revisiting home, or just a curious mind, eager to learn more about The Field School: Welcome. I hope you find our website informative and engaging, and I invite you to call us with any questions about our program. Our admissions team and school leadership are always happy to connect!

As an alum of Field myself, and having been a teacher and school leader here for 15 years, I’m proud to share with you what makes The Field School a distinctly powerful and unique learning environment for so many young people. Ours is a culture deeply rooted in individual expression and growth, and also one that celebrates the beauty and strength of a diverse community. In our small classes (an average 11 students per class), teachers strive to connect with each and every student. In partnership with a fundamental belief in creative, student-centered teaching, these relationships are the pillars of our practice.

The Field School promotes ongoing learning in and out of the classroom; in addition to a serious academic program, all Field students engage daily in the fine arts (visual, performing, and publication arts), and in an athletic program that meets the needs of a broad range of athletes. Field students also engage annually in an immersive two-week Winter Internship program, and learn, over the course of their time here, the importance of grit and self-advocacy. Our hope for Field graduates is that they find themselves academically and intellectually ready for college – but also that they emerge as confident, independent, and resilient young adults who embrace their role in shaping their own future.

As Interim Head of School, I am excited to help steward what we hold near and dear at Field: our educational model, the diversity of our community, our mission and core values. Our mission—Self-Discovery, Skills of Mind, Generosity of Heart—provides focus and direction for all that we do at Field, and we are equally excited about the roadmap for the future outlined in our new Strategic Plan.

In a time of change for the school, it might be easy to overlook the magic that takes place every day in Field’s classrooms and hallways. I am inspired by the transformative work that happens on a daily basis with our students, and I thank you for your interest in learning more about who we are and what we do. Please enjoy the website, and feel free to call, write, or visit us on campus.

Sincerely,

Anne Foley
Interim Head of School
