Student Life
Winter Internship

Overview

Explore. Learn. Serve.

Winter Internship is an immersion in experiential learning. For two weeks, the entire metropolitan area and beyond is our classroom: museums and music venues, hospitals and senior centers, embassies and congressional offices, colleges and universities, restaurants and soup kitchens. Students may choose internships in a wide variety of areas including the arts, business, community service, education, government, law, and science.

Upper school students can also audition to work full-time on Field's winter drama production, or join a faculty-sponsored trip. Sixth graders have a special, structured group experience.

Grade-Level Training

Every year within the Winter Internship meeting framework, every grade level has a focused training session. These sessions are a central part of the Winter Internship curriculum, teaching students a variety of skills and exposing them to real-world and career-related issues over the course of their internships at Field. Specific grade level trainings are:

Seventh, eighth, and ninth grade students
are trained in telephone techniques for calling potential host organizations.
Tenth-graders are trained in interview skills.
Juniors receive training in resume writing. Each junior student completes a resume as part of his or her Winter Internship follow-up project.
Seniors meet individually with their faculty mentor to explore and discuss a suitable senior-level internship, and to further explore internship and/or career interests.
