We understand that arranging school transportation can be complicated, which is why we aim to provide multiple options for getting students to and from campus safely and efficiently, and in compliance with the District of Columbia.
In the Fall of 2024, the Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) and the Board of Zoning Adjustment (BZA) approved the School’s renovation plans, which included recommitting to a Transportation Management Plan with DC’s Department of Transportation (DDOT)—a requirement for all schools in the District. This agreement limits the number of cars that can enter our campus at peak hours to 217 vehicles (inclusive of all students, faculty, and visitors). Every spring, the school’s inbound traffic will be monitored by DDOT to ensure we are in compliance. To help us meet the thresholds set in these agreements, we are asking all families to do their part by considering one of the options below.
Field Shuttle Transportation
Field offers shuttles to and from several metro stations and neighborhoods in the area – and our incredible team of talented and certified drivers operates these iconic blue buses. Each year, the shuttle stops are reevaluated to meet the needs of our community.
Families who choose to utilize the shuttle service must register on a specific route and as a one-way or round-trip rider. For families who need daily transportation, we recommend that you sign up on an annual basis. Financial aid for transportation is available for families receiving financial aid.
Students utilizing public transportation may also make use of a Field shuttle that picks up at a Metro Station to complete their trip to campus. However, you must still sign your student up to use this service, and all fees apply. If your child resides in The District of Columbia, they are eligible to receive a Kids Ride Free SmartTrip Metro Card. Applications for this program are available in the Front Office.
Per the School’s Student & Parent Handbook, motor vehicles arriving on campus between 7:30am and 9:00am on weekdays must contain at least two Field students. Any family that intends to drive to Field during that time must participate in a carpool arrangement. The School provides a list of families sorted by state and zip code to aid families in finding a suitable carpool prior to the start of school. Families can also utilize the zip code search feature on Blackbaud in order to find families in their area.
For our families who live relatively close by, walking, scootering, or biking to/from school is a great option. There are several bike racks located on campus to secure bikes during the day. We understand that Foxhall, despite having a sidewalk, can be challenging to navigate. As a reminder, the school is accessible via 44th Street. Due to construction during the 2025-26 school year, students accessing the school from the park side should continue on the path until W Street, proceed up W Street to Foxhall Road, turn right on Foxhall Road, and access campus through the main entrance. Note: Students who reside within a half-mile radius of school must walk, scooter, or bike to campus on school days.
Field seniors who are 17 years of age may apply for a fee-based parking permit to park at the GW Mount Vernon lot. Spaces are limited and spots were allocated to those seniors who signed up in the spring. Per the School’s BZA and ANC agreements with the District of Columbia, students are prohibited from parking on neighborhood streets and walking onto campus on school days.
