A bequest is one of the easiest gifts to make in your estate plan. With the help of a wealth advisor or Field’s Director of Advancement, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift be made to The Field School as part of your estate plan. Bequests
Bequests are gifts made through a will or an estate plan. Gifts may be a specific amount or percentage of an estate or named as a residual beneficiary of an estate. The Q&A below provides additional information about this type of philanthropic giving.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Donors can lessen the burden of taxes on families and heirs.
- Bequests will not interrupt cash flow during their lifetime, and donors may be eligible to receive estate tax savings
- The School receives a lasting legacy and expression of gratitude.
There are several ways you can make a bequest to The Field School.
- Specific Bequest
A specific bequest involves making a gift of a specific asset, such as real estate, a vehicle, other property, or a gift for a specific dollar amount. For example, you may wish to leave the balance or value of a life insurance policy or IRA, or a specific amount, such as $25,000, to The Field School. - Percentage Bequest
Another specific bequest involves identifying a percentage of your overall estate to charity. For example, you may wish to leave 10% of your estate to The Field School. - Residual Bequest
A residual bequest is made from the balance of an estate after the will or trust has been distributed to each of the specific beneficiaries. A common residual bequest involves leaving a percentage of the residue of the estate to charity. For example, you may wish to leave 30% of the residue of your estate to The Field School. - Contingent Bequest
A contingent bequest is made to charity only if the purpose of the primary bequest cannot be met. For example, you could leave specific property, such as a vacation home, to a relative. With a contingent bequest, the language could express that if the relative is not alive at the time of your death, the property will transfer to The Field School.
