September 17 – January 11: Small Group Parent Tours
Get to know The Field School! Throughout the fall and winter, we run daily small group parent tours of the campus and classrooms in action beginning at 9:30 a.m. Including a question-and-answer session, this visit lasts about two hours. You must contact us to make an appointment—call the Admission Office at 202-295-5824 to set up your visit.
October 1 - January 31: Student "Shadow Day" and Conversation
Every student who applies online by January 15, 2019, will be invited to visit The Field School. Student visits are scheduled upon receipt of the online application, and we host these visits anytime from October through late January.
Applicants to our middle school (grades 6-8) will be asked to arrive at 7:45 a.m. and will shadow a current student through the morning. Applicants to our upper school (grades 9-12) will be asked to arrive at 8:45 a.m. and will shadow a current student through most of the school day.
At the conclusion of the visit, we request that at least one parent rejoin the student for a conversation about their morning at our school. During that talk, we will get to the know the student more completely, but it is an informal conversation rather than an “interview.”

The applicant must complete and submit scores from at least one of the following tests: SSAT (Secondary School Admissions Test), ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam), WISC IV or WISC V (Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children), PSAT, SAT, or ACT. Please plan on completing tests by January 5, 2019. If your child has had a neuropsychological or psychoeducational evaluation at any time, please submit the full report as part of your child's application. January 12 (9:00 a.m.): Information Session
As an alternative to a tour, families may prefer to attend one of our information sessions, which include a tour of the campus, presentation, and question-and-answer session. Registration is not required.
January 15: Online Application and Supplemental Materials Deadline
A completed application includes: an online application, official grade reports, testing, two academic teacher recommendations, applicant essay, parent questionnaire, and financial aid application, if applicable. Applications received after that deadline will be processed in a second round, beginning in mid-March or early April, depending on spaces available at that time. Grade reports and/or transcripts must be sent directly from the school.
To submit your essay, feel free to email a scanned copy to firstname.lastname@example.org, mail a hard copy, or drop off a hard copy at our Front Office. We recommend you make a photocopy of the essay prior to submitting the hard copy to us—sometimes things are lost in transit!
January 15: Completed Financial Aid Application (TADS) Deadline
Families who will be requesting tuition assistance must submit the appropriate information to TADS by January 15. Families that apply after this deadline may not be eligible for financial aid.
