World Languages Middle School

For the past nine years, Field 6th-graders have been visiting CentroNía, a bilingual early childhood education center in Washington, D.C. This partnership has become a cherished tradition because Field students have the opportunity to meaningfully interact with Pre-K students, while practicing their Spanish-speaking skills. The 6th-graders play with the CentroNía students, read them stories, and help them with art projects.

During the first visit of the 2025-26 school year, Field students shared a song they were learning in Spanish class; “El monstruo de la laguna.”

These one-on-one informal meetings with the students at CentroNía broadens the 6th-graders’ world views as they find themselves surrounded by students from diverse families and language backgrounds.

“It was really interesting to see the way that people who speak different languages, that I don’t understand, still think, react, and act in similar ways.” ~ Colin '32

Not only does the environment of CentroNía help students develop an appreciation for diversity and inclusion, but it also allows the youngest members of our community to become the role models in the classroom.

“It is beautiful to see our youngest students at Field display leadership skills and act with patience and empathy towards the little ones”. ~ Karin Davidovich, World Language Teacher
